STOLEN WOOL
NATIVE SENT TO GAOL. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) GISBORNE, Aug. 14. One year in prison with hard laboup, was imposed by Mr P. H. Harper, S.M- to-day qn a Maori named Rawiiiri Wharehenga, 24 years of age, wlp pleaded guilty'to 19 charges of stealing \vool, horsehair and skins in the Ruatoria District, the property of Sam Ngarimu, of a total Value of £B6 15s; the charge extending oyer several months. Accused pleaded guilty and elected to be dealt with summarily. Evidence was given that ■ accused visited Ngarimu’s woolshed at night froip March to July last, and took the wool, etc. away and sold it. The total quantity of wool stolen was about 3QB lbs in weight. The buyer at length became suspicious, and communicated with the police. - The Magistrate said accused was given six months’ hard labour on each charge, the sentence to he cumulative. On the other 17 charges, accused was convicted and discharged.
