LAND FOR SETTLEMENT. r The views expressed by the Hon G. W, Forbes yesterday in the House 'regarding the great problem of Land Settlement should command approval throughout the Dominion. The Minister dealt in some detail with the areas offered to the Government for purchase ■ under the Land for Settlement Act of, 1925, ,and the figures lie gave showed . to what an extent many of the large landholders have endeavoured to exploit the needs of the country for their • own benefit: In twelve typical cases which Mr Forbes quoted, the price asked was obviously extortionate—in many cases more than twice the Government valuation.
