HAMILTON, August 10

The police are inquiring regarding a heavy explosion which occurred iii creek at Tauwhare, near the (■ bridge-Alorrinsville Road, on Thursd.v night. The explosion shook the windows r 1 homes at a considerable distance, anr it is believed that several sticks of gelignite were used. Recently there has been dissension regarding the Drainage Board’s decision to construct a second culvert across the road. One settler, feaiing that this would increase the flow 'of water on his land, is reported to have threatened to blow up. the culvert, which was completed on AVednesday. The explosion occurred a few chains downstream from the culvert.
