THE COTTON INDUSTRY) 'i.‘/' • • • • ’ The Labour, Government at Home ha s been disappointed if it hoped that the early days of its tenure of office would be undisturbed by serious industrial dispute. There is a problem awaiting it in the coal mining areas, but in the meantime apprehensions of untoward developments in the cottdvf industry have proved to be only too well founded. Eighteen hundred cotton mills and approximately half a million operatives are affected, or are liable to be affected, by the deadlock arising out of the decision of the Master Spinners’ Federation that a reduction of wages is necessary if the industry is to be carried on upon a satisfactory footing. / .
