At the ■ Magistrate’s Court, Greymouth, yesterday, Frederick George Davies, inspector of weights and measures, proceeded against Kennedy Bros, before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., on a charge that being the sellers of coal, they carried coal for sale short of the quantity purported to be sold or delivered. There was a further charge of failing to provide the driver of the vehicle with a properly-completed ticket as was required by the Weights and Measures Regulations, 1926. . The Magistrate said that it was quite evident that the carrier had changed his mind only after the sacks had been weighed and had been, found to be shortweight, and had the inspector not appeared he would have delivered the coal short of the proper weight. Defendants were convicted and fined 10s with costs 10s, in each case.
