BIG EXPLOSION

ON MOTOR. SHIP. (Australian Press Association). MELBOURNE, August 9. There was a violent explosion today on the Swedish -motor ship. “Falsierbo’’ at Williamstown. The vessel had on 'board 28,000 cases of kerosene and lubricating oil. Portion of her decking and the engineer’s cabin were blown up two hundred feet into the air.' A lire followed the explosion, and the Haines enveloped the vessel’s bridge. The crew worked feverishly with chemical extinguishers, and, being assisted by fire brigades. they succeeded in s.ubduing the fire before it got too firm a hold. Two members of the crew were injured. The origin of the explosion is unknown.
