SCENTED MUSK
AUCKLAND CLAIMANTS FOR £IOOO OFFER-. AUCKLAND, August 8. The statement published recently that an English newspaper had offered £IOOO to anyone who could produce a plant with the genuine old musk scent has already drawn a response in Auckland. Eager to claim the £IOOO, over 30 people have written to the Auckland District Council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, claiming that they have produced such a plant. As the Institute has no actual interest in tho offer it is hardly its duty to investigate these claims, but letters have been sent to all the applicants asking for samples of their plants in order that tests may be carried out. It is possible that a plant with the genuine musk scent may be discovered. Musk is used extensively in the r,ropnratinn of perfumes, but it has l' v '- enme very scarce recently, and people in England are anxious to secure plant sfor extensive cultivation. I f is this that has prompted the generous offer which is drawing such a ready response in Auckland.
