“RIP VAN WINKLE”
SEASON OPERS TUESDAY NIGHT. The three nights season of the comic opera “Bin Van Winkle*” commences next Tuesday. It has been organised’ ■ by Mrs \V; Staveley in (lid of the funds tfor -All Saints’ Memorial Church, and promises to be a very worthy effort on the part of all concerned. After three nights here the whole company will visit Greyinouth on. the 20th instant (Tuesday' wedk)' when" the opera will be’ produced in its entirety at the Opera House, where already a large attendance iA assured. In'the coming production the Hokitika amateurs promise to add greatly to their, good name. Past successes can, be' recalled in which memorable work waftf tfoTie: The opera , set, down, for next '^.eelii,ijs. diy.. the. .sameV author as “Panf--. Jones ” and “Les Cloches de GSrrievilTe,”' so that the nature of the .work, will Jbe appreciated- as ■ of - specialmerit. There is plenty of scope for both principals and chorus, and a fine fielil for the orchestra with all the tuneful music. Altogether the amateurs who are being so ably directed by Mrs Staveley should present an, entertainment memorable in every way, and a delight to all who are fortunate to witness the production.
