YOUTHS’ JOY RIDE
SEQUEL IN COURT. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, August 8. - The story of a joyride by four young men and four girls to attend a dance at Hamilton, and hack to Auckland the same night, was related in the Police Court. Selwyn Theodore Gustafson, aged. 19, Shaw Clarke Dripps, Colin Montague Marshall, and Frank Geoffrey Gratton were each charged with unlawfully converting to their own use a car valued at £360. Evidence was given that Gustafson was employed at a garage and took the car belonging to a client. It was his. birthday and in the car were whisky, wine, and beer. On the way to Hamilton -he collided with another motor-car when travelling at a speed estimated at 50 miles an hour; and on the way back, he struck the side of a bridge damaging the car to the extent of £6O. The charges against Dripps, Marshall and Gratton were dismissed. Gustafson was remanded until tomorrow for sentence. The Magistrate 5 Mr Hunt said he would obtain a report from the probation officer. Just at' present he felt like giving him. three months imprisonment.
