M AUCKLAND, August 8. \ The charges against William David Weller, of being intoxicated while in icii'rirge of .a. motor van, and nbgligeht drying, tlfuA causing the death of Samuel Leathern, were heard in tlie Police Court to-day. At, the conclusion of the evidence accused pleaded not ; guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial on the negligent driving charge. The police intimated that-the intoxication charge would be withdrawn. At the inquest on Samuel Leathern, > the* coroner returned a verdict of death from injuries received through being knofcked down by a motor van driven by Weller.
