Tljey have secured an assurance from the Hon. W. A. Veitch, Minister of Transport, that the Government is considering the position with a view to seeing whether there is any reasonable method of overcoming the difficulties.
WEST COAST ROAD DAM VGE. The member for Buller has been informed by the Minister of PublicWorks that the Ngakawau-Stockton track is not suitable for development into a road. The grades would require improvement, involving a now alignment for about two and a half miles, at an estimated cost of £IO,OOO. The present •Granity-Stookton highway will be re-opened ,by the County Council for traffic in a few days. Provision has been made on this year’s highway estimates for improvements to the present highway.
