A good number of Presbyterian folk met in St. Andrew’s Hall, last, night when a farewell social was tendered to Mr and Mrs W. Urquhart and Miss ' Urquhart. The Rev. J. W. Hay.wars spoke of (the valuable services of Mr Urquhart who had for over eight years been their church treasurer; of the ; good work done by Mrs Urquhart as Sunday school teacher and in connect tion with the Ladies’ Guild; and of.the active part Miss Urquhart had taken ia anything to assist the church. Compli-/* mentnry speeches Were made Mr W. Wilson and Mr James Park. On behalf oif the congregation, My Hayward presented a Kaiapoi rug to 'Mr Urquhart, a handbag to Mrs Urquhart, and to Miss Urquhart' a fruit bowl. The recipients suitably replied ' and “ For They Are Jolly Good Fellows’’was heartily sung'. During the evening there was community singing. Mrs Parkhill contributed a solo. The ladies supplied supper, and the proceedings closed With ‘ ‘ Auld Lang Syne.”- , ' Mr Urquhart, who for 8£ years, has been manager of the local branch of the , National Bank of New Zealand, lias received notice of transfer to Oamaru and will be leaving Hokitika in a day or two.
