HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONDAY, AUG. sth. The Committee met at 7 p.m. Present: Messrs A. C. Armstrong (Chairman), W. H. Shannon, It. J. Peddef, J. J. Breeze, W. E. Richards, Mrs Wilson and J. Conning. An apology was made for Messrs Chesterman and Sweney. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From D. H. Davies (caretaker), asking for .some requirements.—Received. From .Board notifying intention to remove South Spit school building to Hokitika to accommodate commercial classes.—Received. '■ From Dental Nurse, notifying some requirements;; total attendances for June were 80.—Received. From Inspector forwarding annual inspection report.—Received. From Borough Council regretting inability to grant request for brown sand.—Received. From Rector (Mr E. Partridge} reporting average attendance at primary school for last five weeks whs 280, 281, 267, 187, 233; at secondary school, -02, 102, 96, 83, 97. The roll numbers were 307 and 106. A number of pupils and staff had been absent owing to influenza. At a special proficiency ex r animation last month two pupils secured proficiency and four competency.
The fuel fund collections totalled L 8 13s 6d.

it was not advisable to form a school girls’ hockey team. The annual fair is to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 18th. Miss Duff has offered to organise a school concert after the examinations were over. A request was made for £1 grant to the Basket Ball Association. The organiser of the Winter Show excursion had visited the school last month; no information as to the number of scholars likely to travel was yet available. The senior Newmajf Shield match against Greymouth Technical School will be played at Greymouth next Saturday, and the other junior match against Grey Main School at Hokitika on Saturday, 17th. inst.— Received. A grant of £1 was made to the Basket Ball Association. Accounts as scheduled were passed for payment. Messrs Armstrong and Richards were appointed visitors for the month. The Committee rose at 8 p.m.
