THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
• THE BUDGET. The Budget presented to the House of , ltepesentatiyes by Joseph Ward is a more, comprehensive docu4 ment than that of last' year, and the% , reason ,is not hard to discern. The' ' Minister of Finance has had to deal with' a deficit ; iii .'. ihe | national Account sfor the past financial year, an experience, fortunately, not usual m the Dominion. Since taking office the .7 head of the Government has had. a very strenuous time, and problems of no little importance , have, had to be faced. The Budget indicates that the - issues* have been dealt with promptly and effectively. It is the work pf a business mind applied with courage to the financial affairs of State, and it '< is Avell for the country that, at such a time, it has at its service one who has unequalled experience in matters of national finance. Sir Joseph Ward,: clearly, has . determined, in the first 'place, to set the house.in .order. —Christchurch Times.
