BLAZING MATERIAL
DISCOVERED IN WAREHOUSE. ; By Telegraph— t'er Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 3. Last evening a box, containing rags and paper was found blazing in the Combined Buyers’ Building, 134, Oxford Terrace. It is believed that this is another instance of incendiarism. A ladder was resting against a window in the first floor, and a man could have climbed the ladder, entered the window and fired the paper. The 'premises are next door to Hammond and Turner, where Mr Hammond was shot by an intruder in his shop, three weeks ago.
BOAT SHEDS DESTROYED. NO EVIDENCE OF IN.CENDIARISM. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 3. A fire in the boatsheds near the Montreal St. bridge, caused extensive damage about 7.30 on Saturday evening. " The building, ah old wooden 1 one, was almost completely' burned, , and about a dozen rowing boats and canoes were damaged, or destroyed. The building was burning fiercely when the brigade arrived. The fire was soon under control, and the Building saved from complete destruction. There seems no reason to believe that the outbreak was wilfully caused. Altogether ten boats and canoes were burned while two boats and five canoes were saved undamaged. The insurances are as follows : £IOO on boats, £IOO on building, both-risks being in the Australian Alliance Office. 'The joint owners of the building and boats were Messrs H. Wilson and H. Robinson.
