Westland Acclimatisation and Tourist Society

The Council of the above Society met at the County Chambers at 7.35 p.m. Present: Messrs A. N. Baker (vicepresident) in the chair, Garnet Perry, R. J. Appleton, G. Howe, R. Paterson, and D. J. Evans. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Department of Internal Affairs, notifying the following had been licensed as. brokers under tlie opossum regulations for Westland: J* F. Ward, M. Houston and Coy., W. Jeffries and Coy., A. W. Matlieson, R. S. Black, Ltd .—Received. From same notifying extension of opossum trapping season for Westland to August 14th.—Received with thanks. From Chief Inspector of Fisheries approving tlie proposals suggested for ■the ' liberation of quinnat 'fry, hut regretting it was not possible to arrange for experimental netting of the Hokitika river for quinnat salmon.—Received and agreed to liberate the bulk of the fry in Lake Ivanieri. . From New Zealand Acclimatisation Societies Association suggesting proposals regarding research operations in respect to fresh water fish*—Received, and after discussion deferred to 'await particulars of the cost involved. From Curator, Canterbury, museum, thanking Society for 'forwarding the white heron which it was not possible to mount owing to damaged condition, but stating it would be used as a skin for reference. —Received. The Secretary stated liqjiad seen the specimen and it now appeared to be in excellent order. From Waitaki Acclimatisation, Society, regretting it could not co-ope-Taie in tne deer culling proposals suggested, but operations on a laigo scale would be carried out in the Waitaki territory.—Received. From North Canterbury Society regretting owing to floods washing out the' fish traps, orders for ova could not be supplied this season. —Received. From Otago Society reporting the despatch of 100,000 ova.—Received. The Secretary reported the ova had been received in excellent order last week. . ?.v
