The touring Australian hockey team defeated South Canterbury at Geraldine to-cHiy by four goals to one. The ground was heavy,' and this handicapped the players' a good deal. The home team put up a good fight, but the combination of the visitors was the deciding factor. The Australian'-: had the hotter of play in the first half, and led at the interval by thtee goals to nil. South Canterbury improved in the second half; but the forwards I a deed finish, and good scoring chances were thrown awnv. Despite tho heavy going, the game I, was an interesting one.
