At the Supreme Court to-day George Catlow, found guilty earlier in the week on a charge of receiving stolen property was ordered to .be retained for reformative treatment for a period not exceeding three years. AUCKLAND, Aug. 1. " At the Supreme Court the jury returned a verdict of guilty in a charge of demanding money by menaces, against Harry Cooper Douglas, aged 57, a railway employee. The demands were made over the ’phone upon a grocer by a man who asked £7 and later £2 for a return of what he said were incriminating let.er.s and photographs reflecting on the grocer’s wife. The grocer enlisted the services of the police at an aoopintment made, and this led to accused’s arrest. The sentence was deferred till Wednesday.
DUNEDIN, SESSION: DUNEDIN, 'July 31. At the Supreme Court sessions, John Milne, charged with unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16 years, was found not guilty, and was dischargeod from custody. Thomas Scurr, an auctioneer in the city, was called on to answer a charge of misppropriatihg. the sum of £262., the property of the Assignee in an estate. The* accused pleaded not guilty. Evidence'for'the prosecution was heard, and the Court then adjourned until tomorrow morning, when counsel for the accused will address the jury.:
