TRAINING FOR GIRLS

ADDRESS BY AD CM BISHOP AVER ILL. AUCKLAND, July 30. “I have great respect for the modern girl, her character and her capabilities, but there is a certain particular type which is discrediting her sex and 'bringing sorrow to many a home and parents.” The above remarks were made by Archbishop Averill at the annual meeting of the Young Women’s Christian Association. He said he had been speaking to a woman who had referred to the horrible habit of “spotting.” It was the result of that that girls lost decency and modesty, and in a desire to .be independent they were kicking against moral restraint and bringing discredit upon themselves. • The Archbishop said that it was very important that women and girls should fraud themselves into Associations in an endeavour to manifest the true type of Christian life. It was important that they should be given the opportunity to cultivate leadership, as the great need was leaders’* who woffld stand for things that’ mattered. Until that was d„ne there would be difficulty in counter-acting the discrediting tendencies, “it is nj uae merely deploring these tilings.” said the Archbishop. “The antid'te is the training of women and girls so that they will delight in things that are pure.”
