u.s.-french film war

PARTS, June 15. The film war between the United States and France is approaching a crisis. After months of negotiations the lfrench film producers backed by their Qovernment, insisted that the quota of American films imported into France must be reduced from the present ratio of seven American shown here for one French introduced into the United States, to four American for one French film. The French Film Syndical Chamber of which M. Dulac is chairman, pronoses a combination of British, French Gennan, Italian and other European film producers to meet the competition of the American, and the formation of League of European Film Producers.

The American film magnates declare that they will withdraw all their films from French cinema houses if the four to one quota is adopted, but they say they are ready to pay inimport duties. The American producers realise the possibility that the talking film will soon replace the rfilent film, but they have an immense stock of silent pictures which they desire to market in Europe.
