MANY DANCERS TRAPPED. £IOO,OOO .'DAMAGE. : ' -,.1l (Australian Press Association) (Received this day at 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 30. j.hree hundred dancers were trapped for nearly an hour, last night when a fire partially destroyed one of the city’s most luxurious 'pleasure places, Ambassadors Cabafet! The fusing olf an electric 'switch in a shoe store next door caused a bl&e which was soon trying’the best efforts'of the firemen. I n the'dance hall women fainted, being suffocated by the thick smoke. Scarcely had the Ambassadors been emptied than crashed in. Amazing scenes were witnessed in the streets. Men carried out overwrought women. The damage is estimated at £IOO.OOO sterling and a block which was the most valuable in Sydney, at one time was threatened.
