LAUNCHING TRAGEDY. (Australian Press Association) . SYDNEY, July 29. It is feared that two lost their, lives when a launch in which they were making their way from' Kiama to Sydney struck a rock off Cronulla. Charles Jelfs was,-thrown overboard and Leslie Wilshcr went to his assistance. Both disappeared. HEAVY RAIN IN N.S.W. SYDNEY, July 29. The State Meteorologist predicts further heavy rain on the North Coast with the possibility, of floods. Sydney was drenched during the week-end and the weather was bitterly cold. Snow occurred in the mountains and. other elevated districts.

When just off Sydney Heads last night the Australian Italian lin'er Caprera developed engine trouble. The vessel was in the grip of heavy seas and the anchors were hurriedly dropped. For an hour a pilot steamer and two tugs stood by, hut eventually repairs were effected and vessel entered the Heads. TIME FOR CONCILIATION. NEWCASTLE, July 30. The organiser of the Federated En-gine-drivers’ and Firemen’s Associations (Mr Sutherland) stated in an interview that in his opinion the moment for conciliation in the coal dispute had arrived, and that the combined unions present policy of passive resistance not only offered no hope of ultimate victory to mine employees but was .economically slaughtering the whole community.
