WOMAN DOCTOR SHOT

MISTAKEN FOR DEER.

BERIvHAMSTED, June 16. Dr Barbara Morris, aged 33,. the only daughter of Mr H. M. Morris, the house governor of the London Hospital, was fatally shot last night while stalking a deer in Bingham Park, Potten End, near here. Miss Morris lived in the lodge of Bingham Park, where is near the house of Captain Lindsay-Smith, who is LadyPoison’s son and owns a racehorse breeding establishment at Bingham Park. About • 8.30 last night Miss Morris saw in the grounds one of the wild deer which escaped*(from Ashridge Park when it was sold some time ago. She called to Captain Lindsay-Smith, and with guns they set out-to stalk the'' deer. They went into a wood near the bouse and separated. t A few seconds later Captain Lindsay-Smith saw n movement behind a bush. Thinking it was the deer, he fired and at once ran to the spot. He found to his horror that Miss Morris lay shot through the head. Although overcome with grief he carried . her to the house and drove at great speed to Hemel Hempstead, whence lie took Dr Gilroy back to Bingham Park. SPECIALISTS’ DASH. ; J Dr. Gilroy at once saw that Miss.., Morris was in a serious condition.’ He; hurried to an inn, telephoned for the Hemel Hempstead ambulance, and summoned two specialists from Hie London Hospital. Miss* Morris was rushed to the West ’Hertfordshire' Hospital, Hemel Hempstead. The two specialists dashed from London as quickly as possible, and shortly before midnight an operation was performed in a last endeavour to save M iss Morris’s life. She ( died, ( however, shortly before 3 a.m. Miss Morris’s father was away on holiday, and it was impossible to notify .him of his daughter’s death until to-dav.

Miss Morris started her training as a nurse at the London Hospital, but was unable to* complete it owing to ulhealth. When she recovered she studied as a medical student at-St. Mhry’s Hospital, Paddington, and took her degrees of M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. in 1927. She again had a serious illness, which i prevented her 'from practising, and , ' about a year ago went to stay with a friend, Miss Farer, who lives at Water End, about a mile from Bingham Park. White staying with Miss Farrer Miss Morris met Captain Lindsay-Smith. •About a month later Miss, Morris moved, but returned six months ago.
