THE EARTHQUAKE

There was a smart earthquake shock felt on Sunday morning at 2 o’clock followed by a lighter one some ten minutes later. SHOCKS IN GREY MOUTH. Two slight earth tremors were experienced in Greymouth shortly before 5 oclock on Saturday craning and fairly severe shock took place at 1.51 a.m. yesterday lasting approximately two seconds. It was not of sufficienty severity to cause any damage. SEVERE SHOCK AT WESTPORT. (B.v Telegraph—Press Association). WESTPORT, July 28. AVestport experienced a very severe earthquake at 2 a.m. to-day. It would have caused people to run outside had they not become hardener to ’quakes in the last six weeks. Photographs will also be taken of thq fault line running from the Buffer River north to Furchison. BENEFIT CONCERT. WELLINGTON, July 28. 'Eighteen hands from AVellington city and suburbs combined in an open air concert on the Basin Reserve to day, in aid of funds for earthquake relief. There were between seven and ten thousand people present. The Secretary of the Bands’ Associatin regret" ted that 'the collection realised only £4O. /A second collection was therefore taken up at the gates as the people filed out.
