The police frustrated an attempt at a hostile demonstration at the Chinese Legation, London, after an anti-war meeting at Trafalgar Square. Communists demonstrated outside the Legation, but mounted police moved them on. A scrimmage occurred, but there were no incidents of note.
CHINESE POSITION.
SHANGHAI, July 28
Despite the sign of an early resumption of somo form, of negotiations between China and Russia, Chinese are steadily tightening their grip on the Chinese Eastern railway.
Nanking received urgent despatches from Kalgan Urga, disclosing the Soviets’ subversive activities in outer Mongolia, where a Mongolian rebellion is expected at any moment.
Nanking announces that additional troops are not necessary ip the north. The present ' forces of two hundred thousands are considered adequate protection for the border.
