There’s no satisfactory substitute for tobacco. Many have been tried and found wanting. The best known of these is the stuff called “herb tobacco,” which is about as much like the real thing, as hop-beer is like champagne. Even the genuine foieign tobaccos vary enormously in quality. JBut they possess one glaring defect in common —they are all more or less full of nicotine, and smokers cannot absorb a poison like that into the system continuously without paying the penalty sooner or later. The purest tobaccos of all arc those grown in New Zealand and manufactured by the National Tobacco Co., Ltd., (the pioneers of the tobacco industry in the Dominion). These arc the only toasted brands procurable, and this process eliminates the nicotine and renders the tobacco safe to smoke. The toasting also develops flavour and fragrance. Ask any tobacconist foi Navy Cut (a choice blend of •medium strength), Cavendish (the famous sporting mixture), Riverhead Gold (a delicious aromatic) or Cut Plug No. 10 (rich, dark and full flavoured).— Advt.
