JAPANESE INCIDENT. The Duke of Gloucester’s visit to 'Japan was, like his stay at Vancouver, unfortunate. On his return from a ivisit to the late Emperor’s shrine he was afflicted with violent toothache. It was decided he should consult the most eminent dentist in the town. Now the surgery of this practitioner 5s situated in the Marunouchi Building, Tokyo’s largest, and incidentally \ most hideous office structure. So when the Iloyal intention tyas announced it ■was decided that the whole nine floors of the building must receive an extra spring-cleaning. But somehow the Prince’s arrival was mistimed, with the result that he was received by a guard of honour of pails, brooms, char-ladips and vacuum cleaners, through whidfi the royal party and the outraged Japanese attendants made their way with no little difficulty.
