The dramatic arrest of a Czech staff captain - aerodrome in Prague on a charge of espionage was the result of his dropping an attache case just befoj-e leaving, as a:i ’aeroplane passenger for Dresden with a passport in the assumed name of Friedlander.
The suspicions of the gendarme who found the attache case were aroused (by a few , printed ( words ,on a projecting scrap of paper. Important secret ,w,crc found inside the case. An urgent telegram arrived from Dresden ]in the staff captain’s real name (which ; tlie authorities are withholding) asking the,, controller to protect ,ttyq, attache , case. When the owner reached .Dresden by motor car he was arrested. The prisoner had charge of the copying department for confidential documents. He recently made many aeroplane trips to Berlin or Dresden and it is believed he took documents abroad to copy them. His knowledge of everything relating to the manufacture of munitions was complete and his office at the War Ministry adjoined the room ■containing the safes where all mobilisation plans were stored. He obtained duplicate keys of the safes. The police believe that lie received £3OO monthly for his information from agents of the Moscow Government whom he met in Germany.
