BULL-FIGHT PROTEST. PARIS, June -t. Animal lovers are protesting against a new effort t to stage hull-fights in Paris. French law forbids bull-fights as in Snain, where the 1)1111 is put to death after it has 'been wounded and has gored possibly’ one or more defenceless horses. Bull-fighting without horses and without the bull being killed is tolerated—although strictly it is illegal—in certain parts of France. But in the south of France the toreadors still plant multi-coloured bandarillos in the bull’s withers, maddening him to such an extent that he no longer knows what he is doing or which of his five or six assailants to attack.

It is this fornt of bull-fighting; which it is sought to introduce in Paris as a charity performance on behalf of disabled soldiers, but the proposal has aroused an almost universal demand that the exhibition bo prohibited. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is protesting vehemently. The proposal to hold a charity bull-fight is regarded as the thin end of the wedge, and it- is feared that once a bull-fight is permitted in Paris others will follow.
