FOOTBALL

WEST COAST RUGBY UNION. The weekly meeting was held hist evening at Greymouth. Westland Football Association wrote asking for a change in the date for use of Victoria Park, from August 17th to August 3ist. It was decided to reply that this Union could not see its way clear to alter the date as the 31st August did not at all lit in with their arrangements. It was also pointed out that the Union, owing to the Boxing Championship finals being held on that evening, it was decided to endeavour to arrange a big fixture on that date. The 3rd August was suggested by the Bulier Union for the return home-and-home • match with their representatives at Greymouth. It was resolved to advise that the 3rd August did not suit this Union, and to suggest the 31st as an alternative date, pointing out that this would be a big day in (Greymouth owing to the Now Zealand Boxing Championship being held during that wees.. Westland Sub-Union wrote asking for a bye for Excelsior seniors on August 10th, in order to piny "Westport Old Boys seniors on that date, ft was decided that owing to the interference to the competition fixtures, the Union could not accede to Ik 1 request, but suggests that it be deferred to a later date. It was resolved that the B senior reps play at Hokitika in red and white jerseys, the juniors at Greymouth in blue*-, and white, and the seniors at Ikamatua in amber and black jerseys.

Mr Ha Hi nan was appointed manager of the seniors at Ikamatua, Mr P. Wilson of the seniors at Hokitika, and Mr N. Jones of the junior reps at Greymouth. Mr A. Adams was appointed manager of the Seddon Shield team to Nelson, and it was decided that the players leave Hokitika at o a.m. (breakfasting at Greymouth), (hoymouth at '7 a.m., and Beefton at 9 a.m. to-morrow (Thursday). Fixtures for 27th July .are as follows :

What is claimed as a record has been achieved by boys of Hikutaia, Thames J Valley school, in the primary football schools competition brought to a clos' last 'Saturday- by Hikutaia defeating United Paeroa by 51 to 0. Matches played this season between the samel schools resulted: 40-0, 57-0, 26-0, 43-0, total 197 points to nil, an average of 39 points for each. This school von tlie shield for the first time last year, also being undefeated throughout the competition. ‘ The issue shows how well the boys respond to careful, consistent coaching, along orthodox lines.
