N.Z. CONFERENCE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 23. i At the New Zealand Farmers’ Union : Conference, the following remits were • carried: — . That the Conference supports the Counties’ Association in their endenv- - ours to hold a conference of all the contributing bodies to discuss tbe li.'isis of taxation and all matters connected with hospital , administration. That the conference advocates the holding of all local body elections on the same day. That Electric Power Boards be compelled to publish balance sheets, as well as their profit and loss accounts. The loans to County Councils of £IOO and under be free from the jurisdiction of the Loans Board. To a remit advocating the abolition of the necessity for registering firearms, and urging .the advisability of the free purchase of them and of ammunition, a letter was read from the Minister of Justice stating that this matter was receiving serious depar - mental consideration. A remit, that the preference clause in- .future land ballots, lie eliminated, and. so-enable young men brought up. on farms to stand an- equal chance. . with others, was stated, by tlie. It was resolved that, representations be made .to the Government to revert the previous rates of interest on current ■ accounts for returned soldiers. AIR COATES’S PROPOSAL. WELLINGTON, July 23. At the Farmers’ Union Conference to-day, Air Coates, Leader of the Op-, position, made a suggestion that a great deal of valuable help could be given to the Government if a Board of Reference were set up from tbe ranks of the primary producers, to which the Government could refer matters of importance to primary production and matteift.flf .legislation and administration..
