FIRE ON TRAWLER
FISHERMAN SUFFERS BURNS
TIMARU, July 21
Rudolph Millar, the owner of the fishing trawler Rose Marie, was admitted to the Timaru Hospital tonight suffering from burns to his feet, hands, and forearms, and from a wound in the forehead sustained while endeavouring to extinguish an outbreak of fire on the vessel at 10 o’clock ti»-night. The trawler was badly damaged. The vessel, which was berthed at flic end of the Marine Parade, was one of the largest in the trawling fleet at Timaru. It is believed that the outbreak was duo to a kerosene lamp exploding. Fortunately a quantity of petrol was re-, moved before the flames spread, otherwise the trawler would have been a total loss. Mr Millar, who lives on the vessel, had a- narrow escape. He was assisted in his efforts to overcome the flames by fishermen living on a trawler which was berthed close by. On the arrival of the Brigade the fire had a good hold, but by means j of first-aid pumps and a large suction pump the outbreak was extinguished. The insurances are not available tonight.
