At Newport (Rhode Island) in the first of three days’ play in the intercollege tennis tournament Fpr • the Prentice Cup, the Oxford Cambridge team defeated tlie Harvard-Yale team by five matches to one. Young, in doubles, with Avory, beat Wood and Ryan 7—5, 5—7, B—6. ; NEW YORK, July 19. At Newporth, the Oxford-Oambridge tennis team increased tlieir lead over the Harvard-Yale team for the Prentice Cup by annexing two more single matches against one by the Americans. Rain prevented the scheduled double matches. As the tournament now stands, the British have voh seven matches, and tlie Americans two. Wright (Harvard) heat Young 11—13, 6—l, 6—4; Dericou defeated Whitbeck 6—l, 7—5. Avory (Cambridge) beat Wood 10 —8, 6—4'., (Received this day at 9. a.m.) NEW YORK, July 20. At Newport, Oxford-Cambridge tennis team took the second leg for permanent possession of the Preniicc Cup, having won fifteen matches to six won by Harvard and Yale at the end of the tournament. All the American victories were in the singles. To-day, Wright, of Yale, beat Cooper 6—3, 6—l; Dericou beat Tnghrani in a two-hour match 6—4, 10—8. Wright and Dericou were the only men to take victories during the tournament. Holloway, of Yale, defeated Young 7 —5, B—6. In the doubles match, Young and Avery defeated Wright and Holloway 6—3, 6—o, 6—3.

For the Davis Cup, Tilden beat Prenn 6-1, 6-4, 6-1; Hunter beat Moldenhauer 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. America meet France in a challenge round.

BERLIN, July 20

Jn the Davis Cup contest, America beat Germany. Allison and Vanryn defeated Moldenhaven and Prenn, 9—ll, 6—2, 6—4, 6—3.
