NEW ANAESTHETIC
WEAK HEARTS UNAFFECTED
(United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.)
VANCOUVER, July 19
A medical discovery of importance to the whole world is reported to have been made in the form of an anaesthetic which becomes effective in 50 seconds. It can be given to persons with the weakest hearts. It has been tested here.
Although secrecy is being maintained, ft is learned that it is being manufactured by an Eastern United States Medical Coy., and quantities have been released throughout the Continent. The results will be tabulated before any announcement is made. A most gratifying feature of the new anaesthetic, which is known as sodium amytal, is that the patient remains in a twilight sleep for a period of 36 hours, but can be awakened at any time by the administration of an antidote.
There is no retching or other aftermaths such as results from the use of other anaesthetics.
