FIREMAN KILLED
FALL FROM GANGWAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, July ;19As the result of a fall from the gangway of the steamer i Maliia ; tonight, a fireman, Frederick Stanford, aged 33 years, sustained- injuries from which lie died in.an ambulance on the way to the Auckland. Hospital. 'lt is not known,haw he came to fall into the water. ..., ;. ‘ ' Thq deceased was following two .companions up the gangway, of the Mahia, when they suddenly heard a dull thud followed by a splash. They . .then saw dec-eased in the water, between sel and the wharf and they immediate- . y ly rescued him. He was then unconscious. ArtificjaT respiration proved unavailing, and it is believed that the deceased struck the tbase of his skull W: . on a pipe, and that his neck was broket- ' The deceased was a married man, with children living in England.,
