DAIRY MARKETING
A COMBINE PROPOSAL. By Telegraph—Per Press Association.} PALMERSTON N., July 19. A scheme for the co-ordinated of dairy marketing, by the formation of Empire dairies, was explained at a large meeting of factory representatives at Palmerston Norih yesterday by Messrs Grounds and Goodfellow, the former announcing that from the present indications titty per cent ol New Zealand butter would be available for handling by the organisation in the coming season. No estimates had 'been made concerning cheese.
Mr Grounds urged acceptance of the proposals as the soundest practical method advanced. He stated that if ever Australia experienced a season of high production simultaneously with a minimum period in New Zealand the marketing position would be a perilous one, unless the position was controlled. Only a lortunate eombinatiiAi of circumstances had prevented that occurrence last season. Mr Goodfellow indicated that the proposal was not to enter, into active business competition with Tooley Street on a consignment basis, but to fix prices. , They could easily arrange adequate finance. The object was to eliminate sales competition . arid-' offer to - the mdustf y r ailir.:ader: quate representation and two-tliirds of the profits, business freedom, f.o.b; sales, reliable and independent information, and provided sufficient produce is secured, a 'better average price. •, i ; Tne speakers were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. ■■
