SPECIAL TROTTING MEETINGS
CHRISTCHURCH AND AUCKLAND. WELLINGTON, July 17. Tho Government is giving every consideration to all interests desiring to assist in the relief of those who suffered so severely in the recent earthquakes. The sporting bodies are not slow in extending their practical sympathy. Recently the Auckland Trotting Club and combined Canterbury Trotting Clubs wrote to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon P. A. de la Perrelle, for licenses to hold special meetings in aid of the relief fund. Mr Perelle brought the applications before Cabinet, and it has been decided to grant them. The net profits of the meetings are to be devoted to the relief funds. In conversation with the Minister it was gleaned that any further similar requests made on the conditions mentioned would probably receive the Government’s sanction.
