AIRSHIPS FOR PACIFIC
SERVICE BEING PLANNED. ■ ' ’ .f'; - NEW YORK, July 3. The shortening of the time taken to cover the distance between Australia and the United States is appreciably nearer being an accomplished fact, as the result of negotiations between very important aircraft and shipping interests. The plans concern a dirigible service between California and Honolulu, cutting off four days from the trip. The Goodyear Zeppelin Company, which will build the dirigibles, is negotiating with steamship lines, looking for co-operation between aircraft and ships. As soon as negotiations have been completed, the Goodyear Company will begin the construction of one dirigible of 6,500,000 cubic feet capacity, with eight engines and a crew of 50, capable of flying for 70 hours. The dirigible could make two trips to Honolulu a week. Later, if it is successful, other dirigibles could be added, and the service extended to the Orient.
