He hit two sixes and fifteen ifours, and also broke his bat. Woolley eventually caught him at point. The tourists indomitable spirit won an ovation at the close of their innings. England wanted 185 to win and Vr Sutcliffe and Hammond with the total at thirteen, half the side being out cheaply. Owen-Smith further distinguished himself by catching Sutcliffe. The Africans fielding nobly kept the runs down. Woolley played a chanceless innings and hit eight fours.
