BOY FATALLY BEATEN. MAN GAOLED FOR FIVE YEARS. (Australian Press Association). MELBOURNE, JWy 16. Herbert Brownds, a middle-aged labourer, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for manslaughter. The evidence was that he beat a boy named Foster on June 17th. so severely with a buclde-end of a strap that the boy died. The boy’s offence was that of stealing jam.
