OKURU, TO JACKSON’S BAY ROAD. 'By Telegraph.—Special to Guahoian). WELLINGTON, July 17. Sir Joseph Ward, replying to the Westland deputation regard, ng the Oleum to Jackson Bay road and jetty at the Bay stated the representations would be fully considered when the Public Works estimates were gone into in six months’ time. The road would be expensive and not carried out in a short time. They laboured under the difficulties of a small population. Egress to the Bay is in a different category, hut it is no use without the road, which demands the expenditure of a very great amount and available moneys are not equal to the full requirements.. He would give a most careful consideration to the request with a view to bringing the available land into occupation. Cleared areas of land would have consideration. It would take a period of years to do the work required with the volume of money asked for all over the Dominion. 'Hie matter has been recorded for consideration and when the estimates are gone into to meet the situation as far as possible.

Hons, J. G. Coates and H. E. Holland were also seen,.-promising to support the. request of the deputation. Mr W. T. Morpeth (Commissioner of Crown Lands) was present and supported the deputation, all of whom are leaving for Christchurch to-night.

South Westland, wqited on members of the Government to request an item he placed on the estimates to provide for the erection of a wharf at Jacksons Bay and the completion of the road from Okum to the port. It was stressed there was a large area of land waiting settlement and great timber resources to be exploited. An assurance was given tEaib the matter would he given consideration when the estimates are being prepared which will be in about six weeks time.
