Two women friends agreed to act as seconds, and, on the appointed day. Manci and Sussi opposed each other holding their foils somewhat nervously. Maci’s first furious attacks were skilfully parried by her opponent, but Sussi who was constantly attacked., soon became hard pressed and allowed Manci to break through her guard. Her blouse was ripped and she received a cut on the chest. When Manci saw her opponent’s blood flowing she dropped her foil and fainted into the arms of her second with the words. “Oh! I have killed her.” Sussi, who was perfectly collected regretted only that it would be a long time before she would be able to wear a low-cut evening dress. When Sussi had been bandaged and Manci had recovered from her fright the duellists became reconciled. Havi,)fT pissed each other affectionately thev left arm in arm.
