RACING CONFERENCE

WELLINGTON, July 12. The Racing Conference met to-day. Sir George Clifford was absent and his speech was read. , . Hector Gray applied to have his disqualification removed and after a long discussion the application was granted. There was only one dissentient.,y, , The Conference refused• 'permission to the Broadcast Coy to wireless racing results. D. S. Wa,tkins presided at the annual Conference of delegates of Racing Clubs. The Chief Stipendiary Steward’s report commended the high standard of race meetings but emphasised the fact that unruly and vicious horses still require more rigorous handling by starters. The report also requested more universal adoption of satisfactory weighing apparatus. There were continued inaccuracies in the compilation of race cards. conduct of trainers and jockeys had been more than equal to the standard of past seasons. There appeared to be a lack of instructions impartedl to younger riders to enable them attain the proficiency and competency requisite for their calling. Birehwood Hunt • Club, Ashburton Racing Club, Grcymonth Racing Club, Bay of Islands Jockey Club and South Canterbury Racing Club were gianted permission to include trotting events on their programmes.
C. O. Murphy’s Auckland application for removal of disqualification was refused. The two available licenses and days of racing were granted to Whangarci for April 3rd, and to Taumarunui for a date to be applied for.
