Donald) announces in connection with the abolition of the cash on delivery system for post parcels between Great" Britain and New Zealand, that it has now been arranged with the British Post Office for such parcels not to be accepted after October 31st, The Committee and members of the Poultry Club have been busily engaged during the past couple of days preparing the Soldiers’ Hall for the annual poultry show which open's to-morrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. The exhibition has attracted a large entry, and the Show promises to be a very successful oiie. Admission to the Show is one shilling. The Show will be open on Friday afternoon and evening, and all day on Saturday.
An inquest was held at Reefton on Monday evening touching the death of Obadiah Moyle, before Mr T. H. Lee (Acting-Coroner) and a jury of four. The jury, without retiring, returned the following verdict:—“That deceased came by his death from a fall off the bridge across Murray Creek at Black’s Point, the said fall causing mm to break his neck. Inhere was no evidence of foul play or how he came to fall from the bridge.”
The Rt. Rev. Bishop West-Watson accompanied by Mrs West-Watson and daughter, arrives at Hokitika from Christchurch on Saturday evening. The Bishop preaches at Kokatahi on Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock, and visits Rimu, Kanieri and All Saints’ Church during the day He proceeds to South Westland on Monday and will stay in that part of the Diocese for ten days conducting confirmation services in the several church centres.
The death took place at Greymouth yesterday of Mrs Greaney, widow of John Greaney, who predeceased • her many years ago. She was a native of County Clare Ireland), coming to the West Coast when in her early teens, and residing here since. Deceased had a family of ten, five sons and five daughters. The sons are Daniel (Hokitiiui), Denis and David (Greymouth), and James (Queensland). One son, John Joseph died two years ago. The daughters are Mesdames A. Jones Wanganui), M. Donftellan (Nelson Creek), J. Keating (Greymouth), and Misses Teresa (teacher at Peione Central School) and Julia (Greymouth).
The ladies of St. Andrews Guild entertained the. lady members of All Saints and Methodist Guilds yesterday afternoon at St. Andrew’s Hall. There was a large attendance present, the visitors being received by Mrs Parkhill (President of St. Andrews Guild). During the afternoon songs were given by Mesdames Simpson and Harrison, Misses Davidson and Duff, duets being rendered by Mrs Rowe and Miss Davidson and Mrs Simpson and Miss Duff. A couple of interesting competitions were held and a dainty afternoon tea was provided. Before the gathering dispersed, Mrs Parkhill expressed the pleasure felt by the members of St. Andrews at having the opportunity of welcoming their visitors. Mesdames Wright and Knowles-Smith returned thanks on behalf of All Saints and Methodist Guilds, expressing appreciation of the hospitality extended and expressing the hope that the present gathering. would be the forerunner or; many .similar gatherings, at which they hoped to be able to welcome the members of the other Guilds. Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem concluded a very enjoyable and successful afternoon.

The Kokatahi Winter °,how ball in the Public Hall, Kokatahi, last evening attracted a large attendance and passed pff very successfully. Excellent music was provided by Mrs Morris’ orchestra.
At Westport on Monday the death occurred of Mrs Laura Anderson, On old and respected resident of the district. The late. Mrs Andersoif,' who was 73 years of age, was born in Napier hut has lived in the Buller district practically all her life. She leaves-a grown-up. family of seven daughters and''three sons. Her husband predeceased her some years'ago.
The question of establishing a forestry research station was discussed at a conference held in Wellington last week between the Minister of Education (Mr H. Atmore), the Commissioner of State Forests (Mr W. B. Taverner), Dr Miller, entomologist at the Cawthron Institute, Mr E. Phillips Turner, of the Forestry Department, and Mr Smith, of the same department. The Cawthron Institute offered to provide a building for the carrying out of tigation into fungoids and other forest pests, and also offered the assistance of Dr Miller. A station probably will be set up, and an announcement on the matter will be made shortly.
