Thomas Green, aged 61, married, of Bennett’s Crossing, was hospitalled with serious injuries to the head and body through being thrown from a grubber when the horse boiled. DANGER OF HEAVY PARAPETS. WELLINGTON, July 10. JHe Minister of Education lias urged on the Education Board the danger of heavy parapets and ornamentation in school . buildings, especially over exits. 'Jhe Board was asked to treat it as a matter of urgency and forward a close estimate of the cost of removal, when' tue Minister will be prepared to deal expeditiously with the matter.
A BOY SUICIDES. CARTERTON, July 10. A youth, Roy Chapman, son of Mrs S. Swan, aged 18, was found shot at an ear.y hour this morning, in a stable 100 yards Irani the house. The youth had been to a dance at Kopuranga and'it is alleged had a tiff with a girl. He is reported to have shaken hands with a friend,, intimating he would not see him again.- He then came home, at 3 a.m. His mother and brother both heard, a shot and went.to investigate, and found the lad lying dead. in...the. stable with a shot-gun alongside. He had evidently placed the-gun in his mouth and blown his* face away. A CHILD’S DEATH. PALMERSTON N., July 10. This morning the eight-months’ old child of Mr and Mrs W. Greig, of Bunnytliorpe, was found suffocated in a cot, having, apparently in his sleep, turned over and buried bis face in a pillow.
HOME-MADE ’PLANE CRASHES AND IS WRECKED. AUCKLAND, July 10. A home-made aeroplane piloted by E. Everson, of Ponsonby, was completely wrecked at Mangere Speedway this morning at daylight. The engine was started from the top of a ridge. The machine wheels buniped projecting ground and the ’plane nose-dived and crashed into soft earth on the speedway 60ft. below The pilot though dazed scrambled out otherwise uninjured. The engine was twisted upside down and the back of tire machine broken, and woodwork along the cockpit badly splintered Everson said the machine cost him £6O to build. He is determined to succeed . with another machine. AUCKLAND MAN’S LUCK. WAIHI, July 8, Mr J. Delanej’, a well-known exWaihi mining contractor, now on Edie Creek goldfield, 1 New Guinea, has forwarded to his daughters at Waihi a collection of alluvial specimens ranging in size from a small marble to a fair sized walnut, some being almost pure gold. Mr Delaney is re- 1 turning to Wailii in Decembie|r on holiday leave. THEFT OF BANK NOTES., FEILDIjNG, July 6. Bank notes to the total value of £B6O were stolen from a dwelling in Feilding early in this weeK. The lady of the house, who is elderly, had a large sum in the Savings Bank, and required part of this money for a transaction. She is said to have gone tb the Savings Bank, and had a cheque endorsed for presentation to the .Bank of New Zealand. The cheque was for £B6O. The cheque was presented to the Bank of New Zealand in Feilding, and the lady received eight £IOO notes and the balance in paper of smaller denominations. The notes were placed in a hag and taken home, and the bag was placed in a drawer and left there for the night. Next day when she. went to get the money she found it was all gone. It is understood the hag was there and nothing else in the house had been disturbed.
