ALLEGED ABSCONDERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, July 6. Further details were given in the Magistrate’s Court this morning in connection with the charge against Josef Pelisk and Josef Crawcow, two Polish Jews, of having absconded, from Australia with a view to avoiding the payment of their debts under the Federal Bankruptcy Act. Chief Detective Lopdell produced a cablegram from the Melbourne Police Department stating that the debts totalled £ISOO of more, and that 'the circumstances Attending the departure of Peliks and. Crawcow from Australia and their general conduct indicated systematic fraud. _ It was suggested that hail should be refused. The Magistrate (Mr E. Page) said that tlie accused were arrested as fugitive offenders, and it would appear that they would have to be sent back to Australia under escort. On the facts at present, he was not prepared to admit them to bail.
RATING AMENDMENT.' FARM LANDS OR BOROUGHS. WELLINGTON, July 6. Replying this week to a deputation representing the tomato-growers, seeking relief in regard to the rating of a their lands in boroughs, Hon. Mr de la Perelle referred to the Commission dealing with the rating of lands in boroughs, and said that the Government intended to introduce legislation. He thought that very great relief would be given, and he hoped that the Bill would he brought down early in the session.
CHILD KILLED. IN EPILEPTIC FIT. TAIHAPE, July 6. A hov named Norman Irwin, aged six, was found dead in a paddock this morning. He was the son of Mrs Irwin. of Bennett’s Siding, whose husband was killed in a blasting accident recently. The hoy was subject to epileptic fits, and be fell on a sharp stick, which entered his left temple, and severed an artery. A medical certificate of death was given and there will be no inquest.-

man lost OVERBOARD. AUCKLAND, July 8. A wireless from the lofua, due from Fiji this afternoon, states a second class passenger, Holst, was lost overboard on Friday at 4 p.m. The steamer retraced her course till dark, unsuccessfully.
