From Hokitika Borough Council agreeing to eiuse the present dump, anil use that near the flagstaff; also .stating that the. roadway leading thereto was being placed in proper order. — deceived. .ur tieenan stated that the Council was not con-rolling the dump in a satisfactory manner; in fact rubbish was being thrown down ail over the bench, Al'teu’ discussion it was resolved that the Borough Council be informed that the Board desired proper precautions to lie taken to ensure that the depos.t of rubbish was properly controlled, otherwise the right to use the dump would lie withdrawn. It was stated during the discussion that the way to, prevent indiscriminate ..u.npii.g .of rubbish would lie to give, the r.glit to cart rubbish to pne partiulur carter.

From Harbourmaster reporting the channel was fair, running in a west-south-west direction with a depth of 10ft. on the bar. As the result of the earthquake 15 piles on the north wall, below the signal station had fallen down 3ft. to 7ft.— Received. ■ The Chairman stated that the position of the north protective, works was not as urgent at present as it had been. The sea had washed over the bank and had filled un a considerable portion of the bole that had previously existed. Air Heenan stated that, itmyas not the earthquake, but the scour that had let down the piles mentioned. It was resolved by the Chairman that no reply, bad been received from the Marine Department in regard to the request of the Board i'or ail officer of the Department to visit and report in regard to the condition of the north wall and other matters of importance to the- Board. vHt was resolved to enquire from the Department when their engineer, could ..be expected to visit Hokitika.
