VISIT TO AUSTRALIA

WELLINGTON, July 4
The foil owing has been received from a. member of the Mew Zealand squadron dated Brisbane, 21st June:—After leaving 'Mew Zealand the “Dunedin” and “ Diomede,” both representing battle cruisers, took part in manoeuvres with the Australian forces and contrary to' reports which have appeared in Australian papers were successful in breaking through the defending forces. / ,
In a regatta, at Hervey Bay the “ Diomede ” won the gigs face, and also the stokers, whalers race, and the “Dunedin” and “ Diomede” were equal first in ordinary seaman’s whalers race, in addition to places in other races.
On 19th June, the New Zealand cruisers carried out long range torpedo firing at. the Australian squadron and later the same day arrived at Brisbane. A civic reception was given to the cruisers on the 21st and the ships were open to visitors on the following Saturday. a snecml invitation being given to school children.
On Monday, 24th, at the special req,uest of the city, the. ships’ companies were to land and march'through Brisbane, the salute being taken by Governor/
