CHURCH RE-UNION
DISCUSSED BY BISHOP OF WAIKATO.
HAMILTON, July 1
Commenting on the possibility of the re-union of the Anglican and ither Protestant churches, BishorCherrington last night mentioned the progress made in South India towards e-union. The Anglican, Methodist, Presbyterian, Congregationalist and kiptist Churches, he said, had all •agreed except on the retention of the ipiscopal office. It would be difficult for tlie Anglican Church to renounce apostolic succession, but nothing should be done to hinder the spirit of compromise. “Dare we say that we Anglicans, with our historic associations, doctrines and sacraments, are better men and women than our brethren, th° Presbyterians, Methodists and . Baptists?” he asked. “Are we better lovers of Christ?”
Pie urged the congregation to pray for guidance for the Waikato Synod necting tliis week on this subject, in iew of its consideration by the Lambeth Conference next year.
