HALF-YEARLY FIGURES. For the six months ended on Sunday, the goods traffic through the Otira tiinnel from the. West Coast to Caiiterbury tota led 234,775 tons, as compared -with 226,673 tons for ..the corresponding period 0f.1928..
There iyas a decrease last month, the totals hieing:—l929, v. 40,842 tons; 1928, 50,9u5 tons. The earthquake and subsequent stoppage of work in the coalmines and disorganisation of the track were responsible for this. t On June ‘lßth.the dayifpllpwing the earthquake.. . .lie traffic totalled only 420 tons, anci for the week ending June 22nd. only. :7636 fops were carried.
